INFINITY SPLIT
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 26, 6 – 10 PM
Exhibition: March 26 – “Don't Sleep, Otherwise You Might Just Miss It”
“O Space and time and stars and strife, how dreadful your infinity! Shrined by your term less trinity, how strange, how terrible is life!” - George Sterling
Miami, FL (March 17, 2015) – Primary Projects (PRIMARY) presents Magnus Sodamin’s "Infinity Split," an explosive installation of floor-to-ceiling tableaus occupying more than 3000 square-feet of gallery walls. Where Sodamin’s application generously invades all surfaces of PRIMARY’s space, he poetically captures the fluidity of paint, suggesting to the viewer that “forever is what we make of it.”
A fully-immersive and site-specific exhibition, to see “Infinity Split” is also to experience it: viewing the work is akin to becoming part of the environment. Sodamin’s practice is in the foreground, obscuring any lines between his creative process and the finished pieces. In the absence of clearly defined boundaries, the artist invites the audience to share an intimate, if not vulnerable, moment in his practice – a conversation without spatial or temporal restraints.
“Infinity Split celebrates the beauty of transition, suggesting that anything is possible,” said Books Bischof, PRIMARY founder. “In this installation, there is a clear evolution from Magnus’ first solo exhibition, ‘Into the Rainbow Vein’ (2013), to the present moment. He is asking viewers to meet him where he’s at right now by creating a seemingly endless environment in our gallery.”
Magnus Sodamin is a multidisciplinary artist currently living and working in Miami, Florida. Sodamin trained at Nansenskolen (Nansen Academy) in Lillehammer, Norway and received his BFA from the New World School of the Arts, Miami in 2012. His work has been featured in group exhibitions throughout Lillehammer and Miami, including Cisneros-Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), the Margulies Collection, Lotus House Women’s Shelter, and PRIMARY.
