AMANDA + JAMES presents:
LA VOIX HUMAINE, a one-act, one-woman opera by Francis Poulenc, is a searing glimpse into the life of a woman and her last phone call with her lover of five years. Based on the semi-autobiographical play by Jean Cocteau, the hour-long production will play out in real time at the Bas Fisher Invitational space in Downtown Miami.
Eerily prescient of our era of text messages break-ups and digitally mediated relationships, Cocteau and Poulenc have conjured into carnal, lucid focus the tremendous power of the voice on the other end of the line. The telephone is the inescapable vehicle through which Elle fervidly spins precious last moments of connection with all that remains--the voice.
Presented in NYC in MAY 2014 by AMANDA + JAMES, LA VOIX HUMAINE now arrives in Miami this winter due to the generosity of the KNIGHT FOUNDATION, BAS FISHER INVITATIONAL and CULTURADORA.
Featuring Jacquelyn Stucker as Elle, Matthew Odell as the pianist.
Directed by James Danner. Assistant Direction, Déa Julien.
A site-specific set installation and production design by artist Rachel Libeskind.
Running February 18th, 20th and 21st.
Bas Fisher Invitational, Miami Florida. NE 11th St (btw 1st and 2nd Avenues).
Tickets, $60.
