VOICE FOR EQUALITY HONOREE:
Emma Gonzalez and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Gay Straight Alliance
The Douglas High School GSA leadership have been some of the most visible and outspoken advocates in the aftermath of the tragic events in Parkland. Emma Gonzales, Douglas High School's GSA President, has helped to be the national #NeverAgain movement and in three weeks has brought her message to nearly every major TV network and built as social media following nearly twice the size of the NRA.
COMMUNITY PARTNER FOR EQUALITY HONOREE:
SAVE
For 25 years SAVE has been a pioneer in the fight to protect LGBTQ people from harassment and discrimination. They have led efforts to pass and defend dozens of local ordinances and were plaintiffs in the federal case that brought marriage equality to Florida. They have identified tens of thousands of pro-equality voters and were instrumental in LGBT candidate David Richardson's history making run for the Florida House. More recently they launched a project to ban conversion therapy that is catching fire statewide. We are proud to honor SAVE as our 2018 Community Partner for Equality.
SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP HONOREE:
H. Scott Huizenga & The Huizenga Family Foundation -
For more than 15 years Scott Huizenga has sponsored Equality Florida's work to protect and support LGBTQ students, and this year he and the Huizenga Family Foundation have made a major three-year commitment to helping grow our Safe and Healthy Schools project. For their pioneering and steadfast support of LGBTQ youth, we honor them with our 2018 Service and Leadership award.
