11th Street Diner

(18 Ratings)
Art Deco Diner near clubs
This is diner food, pure and simple: decent hamburgers, fluffy pancakes, gravy slathered menu items, and 24-hour service. It's right next door to Twist, although it does not attract a particularly gay crowd.

Nice Place for a bite, and a must for post bar Munchies

It is touted as open 24 hours a day, but a couple of times I drove by, late after the bars closed, and the place was closed as well. The food is good, and a large variety of items; breakfast is served all day, and can satisfy those munchies from a joint venture. The design is a nostalgic original art deco diner from Wilkes-Barre, and located at the intersection of Washington Ave and 11th street. The location and windows all around makes the place great for people watching, or looking out for your hot and late date to arrive. The place does need to be updated in many ways. If you stopover for a late night nosh be mindful, and aware of your surroundings, especially people coming in a bit disoriented, and wearing shabby chic attire. Try to avoid eye contact with these people, or they may come over and ask you to share your food with them, and if you refuse they freak out, make a scene, and incoherent threats; true story. Thank god the police station is basically across the street of Washington Ave. The police were called, and the disorderly patrons were taken away.

Looks can be deceiving

The Art Deco metallic exterior looks cute, right? This place used to be the best in town, but time has not been kind to 11th Street Diner. It's down the block from Twist, so you would think the gays would fill up their booths every night; but walk a few steps in the other direction and you're in Thugville, USA. Shootings are known to happen on this stretch of Washington Ave. As a result, it's usually pretty empty inside. The food is decent, but the service can range from indifferent to blatantly rude. It's disappointing, but this place needs a major overhaul before it will be worth a visit again.
