It Takes a Village, People!

“Village People, now is the time…Village People, your fight is mine...” 40 years ago Randy, Victor, Felipe, David, Glenn and Alexander sang those words as a call to action to an irresistible disco beat. They were the embodiment of what was attractive to the gay eye. With fabulous songs – YMCA, Macho Man, In The Navy, You Can’t Stop the Music – they hit the party scene and have not stopped making us get up and dance ever since, transcending the lines between gay and straight with their music. The Village People shared the world with the likes of Queen, ABBA, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer and Billy Joel during an amazing decade that saw the birth of the Gay Liberation Movement and helped us, through their music, take our place in the sun. This concert pays tribute to The Village People on their milestone anniversary and to the music of the decade that helped us become a village.
